Rachel Bittles is a Graphic Design and Illustration student from Belfast, Northern Ireland. An avid people-watcher growing up, she was fascinated with the human experience and was determined to understand it. In school she took a keen interest in portraiture. To her, no subject was the same and thus she never grew tired of it.
After achieving top marks in both GCSE and A-Level Art, Rachel left school to pursue a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Ulster University. It was here that she transitioned from studying how people looked to how they communicated through Graphic Design. Rachel’s work focuses on function over form. She is inspired by Swiss Style designers such as Josef-Müller Brockmann, which is translated through her minimal and precise designs. Throughout her studies, Rachel has had her work displayed at the Ulster University Degree Show and The North Belfast Area Learning Community Schools Art Exhibition.
In her spare time, she enjoys combining design with her other interests on her art account, excelsiart. Her ‘Minimal Movie Poster Challenge’ gained popularity on Tiktok, with one poster garnering over 225k views. From this attention Rachel has been able to begin selling her designs and has been commissioned by short film directors.
